AVON D,-REFRESHED BRUNETTE

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

HAIR CUT/STYLE by ALESSANDRA SAMAN

It’d been a while since we had refreshed Avon’s hair color so she was definitely due.  However, she’s a busy mom so I wanted to keep her on the low maintenance path.  To do so, it was important to keep her relatively close to her natural color while still giving her a feeling of being overall lighter.  Very subtle highlights are key here.  Avon can now go months again before needing touch-up appointment.  Perfect!

WITHOUT EVEN TRYING

This reminds me of a brunette Debbie Harry 70’s cropped chopped shaggy bob.  I dig, and I especially dig the richness and solidarity of the brunette color.  So chic without even trying.

KATHERINE H.-SUNTEA TO CAYENNE

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

What I love about my client, Katherine, is that she loves to switch it up.  I’d say about every other visit we play with her color and alter it in some form whether it be slight or major, so she’s no stranger to making an appearance on ON COLOUR GROUND.

Katherine has always toyed with the idea of going red and so on this past visit we decided to go for it, knowing that if we were going for it, we were really going to make the red vibrant.  I transformed her hues of suntea locks into a coppery tone of cayenne pepper red.  Now that Katherine’s a vibrant redhead, she can rock this for a bit and then we can play some more by simply changing the tones of the red.  Perhaps we will go more ruby red, or more cool toned, or more auburn… sky is the limit here.  We all shall see…..

EASY DOES IT CLASSY

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

With a sleek bob like this, you want to keep the highlights on the classic side.  Take a less is more, easy does it approach so that the color isn’t competing with the cut and then your over all look will be more fluid and natural looking!

GRETCHEN G.-INVISIBLE HAIR COLOR & LOCKS OF LOVE

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

HAIR CUT/STYLE by  ALESSNDRA SAMAN

It was an exciting day of big changes for Gretchen’s morning in the salon.  First and foremost she was ready to lose some inches off her length for the organization, “Locks of Love,” which accepts hair donations in lengths of 10” or more to make hair pieces for children in need.  Way to chop your hair for a good cause, Gretchen!

Locks of Love

Second for Gretchen’s changes was giving her “invisible” hair color.  Quite a challenge for her all-natural-never-been-colored-never-been-highlighted strawberry blonde locks.

Gretchen’s natural color is gorgeous and the last thing she wanted was for it to look much different.  On the flip side, the first thing she wanted was for me to erase those pesky pigment-less hairs a.k.a. greys.  The only way to truly hide those puppies is to bring on the base color.  So I did my best to match Gretchen’s own natural base color to a permanent color that would provide her with grey coverage at her roots.  I also gave her very fine highlights to keep her strawberry blonde looking sunkissed and to also blend any greys throughout the midsection of her hair.   Her “unnatural” color looks pretty right on to her natural color… No one would ever know!

BOB & WIG

Here’s a little more of that 60’s vibe in a modern world I’ve been digging.  And it’s along the lines of what I’ve been trying to get my hair to do.  Though when I see this, I want more of a bang and to be platinum!! Should I do it, should I do it?  Or should I just do as the editorial world does and get a wig?

DANA B.-READY FOR A CHANGE

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

HAIR CUT by ALESSANDRA SAMAN

Dana wanted a change and a change is what she got!  Alessandra lopped off her length transforming her cut into a fun and sexy bob and I kept her color true to being a brunette with subtle sunkissed highlights.

DARK SEXY COOL

Love love love everything about her hair.  The cut is sexy, the color is dark, and it’s an overall cool look.  Blonde doesn’t have to be the look for summer!

BOB & WIG

Whelp, I’m 99.9% sure this is a wig.  A damn good bob of a wig that is …with beautiful color.    A medley of baliage ribbons could give you this look, polished off with the perfect color gloss to achieve a tone that offers subtle dimension and and a bit of rooty-ness

BOB FOR RIBBONS

A tousled bob haircut looks so good with brighter ribbons of highlights scattered throughout.  Gives the illusion of more movement in the style and adds a little extra spark to the color.

AGUSTA “COOKIE” ARADER-NO HAIR TRAUMA FOR YOUR MAMA

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

HAIRCUT by ALISSA TIETGEN

First off, it’s no wonder Agust’a nickname is “Cookie,” she is pretty much the sweetest and cutest person I’ve ever met.  Second, poor Cookie, over a year ago she had a traumatic hair experience with a previous stylist and was nervous, as expected, to try something new with her hair and with new stylists/colorists to boot, such as Alissa and myself.  I’ll spare you the details, but let’s just say Cookie had a different head of hair years back.  So, third, YAAAY Cookie!  She embraced her fear, threw caution to the wind, and left happy as can be with her new cut and color!

It’s always such a bummer to hear hair horror stories and always such a pleasure to see someone have the best salon experience ever.  I cannot stress enough to you all how important it is to find that color and cut team you trust and love!  If you’re in the market for new salon professionals… research, research, research…google, yelp reviews, word of mouth, ask questions, stop a stranger on the street if they have good hair, do what you’ve got to do to make sure you’re in safe, confident, creative, good hands!

BOB ENHANCEMENT

This isn’t your mom’s bob.  Nope, far from it, thanks to subtle honey golden kissed highlights framing the face and enhancing the texture.  This is sex hair!  This is my new favorite length.  This is hot!

BOWL BOB

Well, go figure, I’m obsessed with this cut and color combo. Modernly fresh retro vibe. How does that work? Sometime the two just work together so good it hurts. It’s perfection, precision, and pleasing. Reminds me a bit of the blog post from yesterday’s makeover on Tammy. Lovin it!
