Nouf came into the salon to get the works done. …. and of course regretfully so, I don’t have a before pic. whaaa! It’s such a good makeover too.  What was I thinking?

First off, it’s no wonder Agust’a nickname is “Cookie,” she is pretty much the sweetest and cutest person I’ve ever met.  Second, poor Cookie, over a year ago she had a traumatic hair experience with a previous stylist and was nervous, as expected, to try something new with her hair and with new stylists/colorists to boot, such as Alissa and myself.  I’ll spare you the details, but let’s just say Cookie had a different head of hair years back.  So, third, YAAAY Cookie!  She embraced her fear, threw caution to the wind, and left happy as can be with her new cut and color!

 It’s always such a bummer to hear hair horror stories and always such a pleasure to see someone have the best salon experience ever.  I cannot stress enough to you all how important it is to find that color and cut team you trust and love!  If you’re in the market for new salon professionals… research, research, research…google, yelp reviews, word of mouth, ask questions, stop a stranger on the street if they have good hair, do what you’ve got to do to make sure you’re in safe, confident, creative, good hands!

Leanna was referred to me by a few other gals you’ve seen on the blog (like I always say, best way to find a new hairdresser is a referral from a girlfriend) and wanted to take her ombre hair to the extreme with brightness and fluidity.  An “extreme ombre”if you will, all the while not having to worry about hair color maintenance for her semester in Europe.  Perfect color for being abroad!

Jessica’s new color is a perfect example of softening a previously too dark base color, which can at times read as too harsh against skin tones.  For her I lightened her base a shade and broke through her prior color with highlights and a full tip out, followed by root glossing and over all glossing to achieve the amount of depth and tonal value I was looking for.  Now Jessica reads as a soft brunette with warm golden tones- a more natural hair color look.  I love it on her!

Lauren was back in town from NYC for her winter break and due for a touch-up.  She wanted the exact same look as we had previously done only with a bit more brightness for extra pop within her highlights.  To achieve her refreshed look, I did a full tip-out to her ends and Alessandra trimmed her locks and polished her mane with some curls, which she kept tight as opposed to breaking them up, to ensure they’d last her throughout the day and into the evening for her night out.  Gorgeous hair!

You know it’s funny how life works out sometimes… this super amazing girl above and I met 15 years ago waiting tables together in Huntington Beach and here we are now, working together again, at Neil George.  My how far we’ve come!  

Meaghan was ready for something new and modernly fresh so we decided to break the trend and go for good ol’ fashion  highlights from the the root.  Contradiction?  Modern and ol’ fashion? Yeah, probably so.  But when a trend has reached its limits you sometimes gotta retreat back to beginning in order to be fresh again.  Her hair color is much softer now and having the highlights throughout gives off a glow that was missing from the matte-ness of her previous color.

Alissa lopped off some length and carved in some layers to sculpt a new shape for Meaghan that brings her hair fullness and  movement.  I love this cut on her!

Cheryl’s bob needed some redirection of her color to bring the life to it’s flirtatious potential.  The placement of her previous highlights was off - making her color seem drab against her skin tone and the texture of her hair seem dryer than it really was. Changing the placement of her highlights brought a softness to her face and brightened up her skin tone.  Such a better match for her cut!

BAMBI BADASS

There’s no other way to describe it… Bambi Northwood looks badass in this spread and I’m going to place the hot blame on her hair and her brows.  Love the depth at her root that defines her as a brunette and the subtle fade of her ends that whisper dark golden blonde, as opposed to shouting obvious ombre.  Oh… and curse the pale skin and strawberry blonde I’ve been blessed with that will never allow me to have the Brooke Shields/Bamabi Badass brows I can of course, only dream of.  Damn you to hell gene pool.
