DARK FOR SUMMER

Proof it’s a myth you should always go lighter for summer when dark is equally as fun and sexy.

When your rich and shiny brunette tone begins to dull from too much fun in the sun and surf, refresh with a color gloss.  I always use Redken Shades Eq and for the above I’d regloss with 1oz 1/2 of 6nb and a 1/2 oz of 6n under heat for 10 minutes, cool for 5.  If it’s just the shine you’re missing and not the tone, do a Shades EQclear gloss under heat for 20 minutes.

ALI B-BROUGHT TO LIFE

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

HAIR CUT/STYLE by DANNY RISHOFF

Danny and I teamed together to bring Ali’s hair back to life by giving her a fresh haircut and deepening her color.  Together we added a richness and a shine that gives her one incredible head of hair!

SARAH G.-SWEET HAIR

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

Balyage highlights softened Sarah’s color from dark chocolate to melted caramel swirls.  The best combination of sweet if you ask me!

EMILY M.-NEUTRALIZED BRUNETTE

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

Emily’s brunette was a brassy brunette needing a little neutralization to take it to a rich deep chocolate brown tone.  A combination of a base bump, low lights, and an all over gloss were the necessary steps to transform her color.  So pretty!

EFFORTLESSLY SEXY

So the saying goes-blondes have more fun-this may be true.  But I’m saying brunettes are way sexier.  Especially when the color looks effortlessly done.  Deep, rich dark chocolate with again, my favorite words these days, barely there highlights.  Subtle, subtle, subtle.  I can’t stress this enough for the coming seasons.

MONICA R.-DARKER FOR HEALTH

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

Monica discovered my work on Pinterest of all places.  (Who knew?  …and Yaaay! That’s awesome.)  She was ready to go a few shades darker, knowing that it would bring some shine and a look of health to her fragile over processed ends. Keeping that in mind, I avoided giving her more highlights and did my best to work with any lightness she already had to accentuate her transformed darker hue.

When your ends are looking tired and frayed and a cut just isn’t in your heart, going darker as Monica did, really can be the best alternative in faking shiny, rich, thick, healthy hair.

BRENDA B-BRUNETTE ON BLACK

HAIR COLOR/CUT by SARAH CONNER

Brenda is an old friend of mine’s stepmom who’s got one amazing head of hair!  She had been box coloring for quite some time and had begun to feel like it was just too dark.  So I softened her look with barely there brunette highlights (her very first highlight experience by the way- so exciting) and gave her face framing layers to open her up more.

Hope you’re loving your new look, Brenda!

VERONICA I- SOFTER SIDE

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

HAIRCUT/STYLE by NEIL WEISBERG

Veronica, sister to Sheridan from this past Tuesday’s post, also came in to get a fresh new look.  Her long dark hair, while rich and shiny, read a little bit too harsh and inky on her ends.  A simple change with a big effect on long dark hair is to add hints of softness by randomly tipping out her ends and then toning them down to a brunette shade two-three shades lighter than the original darker color.  Such pretty hair!

TAYLOR MATTOX-A STEP CLOSER

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

Taylor’s a girl that knows what she wants, especially when it comes to her hair.  She arrived armed and ready with a source of inspiration- a picture of super model, Lily Aldridge.  To get Taylor a step closer to her dream hair color, I had to first deepen her root through the mids by taking her a few shades darker to a more chocolate brunette.  I then did fine face-framing highlights and added a few brighter tips to her already lighter ends followed by a color gloss to achieve the perfect golden tone.

I love it when a client walks out the door feeling like she got what she wanted, and Taylor did just that!

MINA KWOK

HAIRCOLOR/BLOWDRY STYLE by SARAH CONNER

Mina, who is actually my assistant, was beginning to feel a bit gothic with her solid dark hair color.  Not her thing!  To soften her up, we added some face-frame highlights and subtly lightened her tips.  ”Goth” Mina is now ready for the brighter days of spring!
