BELIEVABLE COLOR

Subtle is best to keep the look natural- a deep root, softer mids, and barely lighter ends are the key to a believable look.

BLACK SHAG

We all know long hair is sexy, but short hair, when you’ve got swag and style is even sexier- even if it is a wig!

ALLISON R.-YOU START, I’LL FINISH

HAIR COlOR by SARAH CONNER

Allison had been in e-mail communication with me in regards to her traveling from afar to see me for a hair color appointment.  She told me that she had been coloring her hair almost black for quite sometime and was wanting a more ombre’d look.  Since she wouldn’t be able to travel my way for a few months she decided to be brave and begin the color removal/ombre transition on her own with the assistance of one of her colorist girlfriends.  Generally I always advise against any at home attempts of anything hair color related, but since Allison was assisted by a colorist friend, I said proceed…but with caution.  Removing black is a big job!

Allison’s before pics are the results of her and her friend’s experience and I’d say for the caliber of the job they took on they didn’t do half bad. and definitely got the job started.  Now it was my turn to step in to fine tune her overall look.  I tweaked her highlight placement followed by toning and glossing to giver her hair color a more natural looking fluidity.

Now that’s teamwork!

BECCA S.-RAISED OMBRE

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

Ombre the trend that keeps on trending… and transitioning for that matter.  Slowly, but surely, the highlights are creeping up towards the roots- three to four inches away from the root vs. six to eight inches away reminiscent of the ombre we once knew.

For Becca’s look I balayaged ribbony highlights a few inches away from her root, casted a shadow at the start of them with a toner, and polished her hair with a Redken Shades EQ gloss.

HANNAH D.-MODERN TEEN

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

HAIRCUT/STYLE by ALISSA SMITH

How adorable is Hannah?  And in a world of teens wanting to be long and overly blonde,  how refreshing it is to have a gorgeous young lady such as herself request to have inches lopped off into a long bob and her color modernized into a rooty, beachy, blonde.  Ahh, she’s a dream come true and I’have a feeling she’s going to be setting the trends amongst her peers for seasons to come.

LAUREN D.- HEADING OUT DARK

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

I hadn’t seen Lauren in quite some time as she had moved away, so I was pleasantly surprised to see her name back on the schedule and ready for another ON COLOUR GROUND debut.  I was also happy to hear she was in the mood for a change to the darker side and even more happy to hear she was down with being a solid rich dark color.  It’s a  refreshing low maintenance change when it’s been ombre’s world and we’ve just been living in it.

DALIT G.-PURPLE REPEAT

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

So, a few posts ago I posted the instagram version of Dalit’s vibrant purple locks, but purple is so good on her that I felt compelled to semi-repeat a post by blogging her salon shots as well.  She’s just too cute not to, really!

AMBER ROSE -NOT JUST AN EX OF KANYE

Pretty pretty hair color- I’m calling it slightly copper amber rose gold with a bit of natural root.  And I’m liking the whole tucked in the collar bit with the styling.  Hair trend?

BEACH GODDESS

In honor of the first official day of summer, I bring to you the “new” beachy blonde.  Think of warm golden sand…and again less dimension, but still with barely there sun kisses of highlights.  So dreamy.

WORKS WITH WHAT YOUR MAMA GAVE YOU

Bronde, that in between color, that’s not quite a blonde, has been making a splash all over town.  To achieve the look, you don’t need a whole lot.  Highlights that only frame the face with just a few sun kissed tips will do the trick amongst your natural sandy-dishwater blonde color.    It’s a way to work with what your mama gave you!

80’s SOLID GOLD

I know I’m beginning to sound like a cassette tape being rewound and played again, rewound and played again, (google it, they used to exist, I swear) when I say less dimension is more for this season, but I just can’t help myself.  It’s what my eye is drawn to these days, which is why I instantly fell in love with the images above.  Solid, amber gold- a throw back to the 80’s when said cassette tapes were at their highest of highs along with hair color that was at its solid-est of solids.

To achieve the look- seal your color whether it’s a single process or highlights with an all over gloss relatively the same color level as your desired target level.  You’re wanting to have color deposited vs. toned.

DIMENSIONLESS

Prime examples of what I was talking about in the post a few days back in regards to less being more.  Very little highlighted dimension can be seen on this rich dark brunette beauty nor on this pretty little bronzed blonde and I’m 100% digging it.  What are your thoughts?
