TERRI A.-BRING IT UP

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

HAIR CUT by FRANKIE HERNANDEZ

Terri was mostly her natural color with a few inches of lightened ends when she made her way to my chair, reading pretty dark overall in her hair color.  Bringing the brightness of highlights up and throughout her locks instead, along with the shape of her cut, softened not only her over all hair color, but also her skin tone.  Terri’s new look gives her a fresh happy glow.  Love to see a smile like that!

SOFTER SIDE OF VANESSA PARADIS

Usually you find the fabulous Vanessa Paradis with rich dark hair color.

It’s kinda nice to see a softer side of her color for a change.

Just sayin.’

REFRESHING SIMPLICITY

There’s nothing too extreme here.  No screaming for attention.  No, “Hey, check me out!” Yet her look still draws you in.  Maybe it’s the refreshing simplicity of it all-finally!

Her color is a soft almost neutral lightest brunette and her texture is sleek and straight.  SImple as that.

It’s been a world of beach waves and dimensional color for quite sometime and I say it’s time we kicked it back a notch and let simple take over!  Is it time to dust off the flat iron?

DYLAN G.-CHANGE W/O A CHANGE

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

CUT/STYLE by CHRIS TURNER

The trick to Dylan’s new look was to make her FEEL like she got a BIG change without it LOOKING like she had a BIG change.  To achieve this I decided to give her a softer version of what she already had going on with more fluidity.  I did fine highlights and scattered tips throughout her ends transforming her from a dark brunette to a medium brunette tone with golden highlights.  What an insane head of hair!

MIRIAM M.-DARKEST TO SOFTEST

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

Miriam’s got one gorgeous head of hair that is naturally the darkest brown possible before you borderline on having black hair and she was in need of a softer look.  (sorry, no before pic this time ;o(  To achieve this on her I bumped up her natural base color to a softer chocolate brunette and did very fine highlights along with a hefty amount of tipping out to her ends.  I completed her look with an all over color gloss to achieve the specific tones I wanted within her highlights so that they compliment her softer brunette color without being too contrasting.

*The key when you’re this dark naturally is still reading as a brunette with highlights vs. reading like a brunette trying to be blonde.

SUMMER BRUNETTE

In honor of it being 900 degrees out I thought I’d share these beautiful pool side/ocean front little beauties of another example of what it looks like to be a soft brunette.  Barely there tips keep her looking natural as if her vacation has done her right.  Perfect!

JENNIFER FREEMAN- SOFTER BRUNETTE

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

HAIR CUT/STYLE by ALESSANDRA SAMAN

Jennifer came in as an au natural darkest brunette and left as an enhanced softer brunette.  GORGEOUS!   It’s one of my favorite looks on someone who is naturally super dark- it’s important to keep them still reading as a brunette as opposed to looking like a brunette trying to be blonde.  Bonus, it’s generally more flattering to the skin tone too.

LEANNA B-OVER IT

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

HAIR CUT/STYLE by ALISSA TIETGEN-SMITH

A few months back Leanna came to see me to fix a semi-botched ombre job she had received elsewhere.   It was the perfect low maintenance look for her semester abroad, but now she’s back and she’s O V E R her ombre.  I’ve been feeling the same way towards the trend, so I was happy to oblige and get rid of it.  I softened her overall look by highlighting and toning meanwhile recognizing the importance of keeping Leanna looking like a brunette as opposed to a blonde.  Alissa completed Leanna’s look by shortening her due a bit to the ever so sexy collar bone length.  Love it!

SARA O-LESS IS MORE

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

Sara came to me as a new client feeling like her color was a bit “off” when she needed it to be “on” as her wedding was a mere few days away.  Yikes!  … and she was right, it was a bit off.  Her highlights were on the stripy side and her brighter blonde piece around her face was too much-too big and too bright of a chunk.  So for her I decided to go with the less is more approach.  I added a few more subtle highlights to help blend her old stripy ones as well as toned them down a few levels.  I still kept her a bit brighter around her face but within the realm of two levels lighter than her natural color as opposed to five levels lighter.  In the end her color turned out beautiful and so did she on her wedding day! (I styled Sara for her big day and can’t wait to see and share the photos.)

DARK & SULTRY

She’s sexy and romantical and it’s all because if her hair.  How powerful is that?  The key is to be dark without looking too harsh.  Here her deep brunette has a softness to it that is welcoming and inviting.  Is your color drawing people in?  Or is it shouting out, stay away?!

A TOUCH OF BRONZE

A soft warm brunette with hints of bronze highlights, an excellent accent to green eyes and olive skin.  Gorgeous!

VIVIAN WANG-JUST RIGHT

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

HAIR CUT/STYLE by ALESSANDRA SAMAN

Vivian came in with really loooonnnggg hair and color that was a bit off in placement.  She needed a modernizing makeover!  First step, remove unneeded length.  Second step, highlights, tip out, soften her base, and redirect that color to give Vivian more of a soft brunette look.  What a great change!

JESSICA BELTRAN-SOFTER SIDE OF DARK

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

Jessica’s new color is a perfect example of softening a previously too dark base color, which can at times read as too harsh against skin tones.  For her I lightened her base a shade and broke through her prior color with highlights and a full tip out, followed by root glossing and over all glossing to achieve the amount of depth and tonal value I was looking for.  Now Jessica reads as a soft brunette with warm golden tones- a more natural hair color look.  I love it on her!

RENETA GRUMA-SOFTER EDGE

Reneta looks good with her stark dark hair, but she was ready to see a softer side.  I tipped out her ends and glossed them down to a softer shade of brunette.  This is a simple change that can bring on a big difference to a look… it can change skin tone, enhance features, and even change a person’s vibe.  This is less is more!

NICOLE CARRICO-TAKE IT BACK

HAIR COLOR by SARAH CONNER

Tired of her blonde tips, Nicole was ready to be taken back to her brunette ways with just a hint of softness to her ends.  No more ombre shout out for her!
